Florida Datil Pepper Sauces

We now have sauces! Both are made from the hidden gem that is the Florida Datil Pepper. This little pepper brings a good amount of heat and strong smoky flavor. The pepper hails from the St. Augustine area of Florida. Once we discovered it, we could not wait to bring some to Tennessee. In our rich soil, we produced some tasty peppers and they are now available in a hot sauce and smoky ketchup blend.

Florida Datil Pepper Hot Sauce

The Florida Datil Pepper Hot Sauce is a traditional hot sauce blend with a strong, smooth heat and plenty of smoky flavor from the Datils. We like to put it on all sorts of meats. It goes well in all Hispanic dishes as well, particularly tacos and enchiladas. Available in 4oz and 8oz jar sizes.

Smoky Datil Ketchup

The Smoky Datil Ketchup begins with a ketchup base and then gets loads of fresh Datils added in. It features a small amount of heat and strong smoky flavor. This is likely the most smoky ketchup you can find. We like to use it on anything you would normally put ketchup on like burgers and french fries. It goes great on potatoes in any form. We did not make much of this sauce so we do not expect it to be available for long. Available in 8oz jars.

Shipping available to anywhere in the U.S. Visit our Shop page to get a jar headed toward you. Pick-up directly from the farm for $5 for 4oz jars and $8 for 8oz jars. Learn more on our Jams/Jellies/Sauces page.

Our first dessert jam is here! Grab some Apple Pie Jam and put the taste of apple pie in your mouth with every bite! This chunky jam tastes just like apple pie filling. Now Shipping Fresh Peppers!

We are now shipping fresh hot peppers! We are kicking it off with Habaneros. Grab a box filled with all the Habanero varieties we grow. The amount of each will depend on what is ready for harvest when you order. If you are looking for one specific type, get in contact with us and make sure it is available before you order. We will do custom boxes too whenever possible! The mix includes the milder and more flavorful Numex Suave Orange, the traditional orange Helios and red Hot Paper Lantern, the large Giant Habaneros, and the hotter Devil's Tongue and Scotch Bonnet peppers. This is a great way to try them all! It is an excellent mix of flavor, heat and color that is sure to please the Habanero lover. Use them for whatever you wish!

Small Box of Habaneros

Our fresh pepper boxes come in two sizes: USPS Small Flat Rate Box and USPS Medium Flat Rate Box. We don't count the peppers, but instead stuff the box as full as we can. The Small box is usually around 28-35 peppers depending on size, while we can get 90+ peppers in the Medium box. We chose these sizes for the ability to ship. Priority Mail is necessary to get the peppers to you quick to ensure freshness. Flat Rate provides the best, most cost-efficient option for our buyers. We will be shipping out Monday through Wednesday most weeks to ensure that your peppers don't sit in a hot warehouse somewhere unless you live close enough for us to ship later in the week. If you need the peppers really quick, please contact us to make sure we are ready to pick and ship before you order. We will fill orders as the peppers ripen.

Below is a picture to help you identify your Habanero peppers when they arrive if you feel the need to tell them apart.

What's included in the Habanero boxes

We are so excited to unveil this new option to our customers. Our first orders are already away. Visit our Shop page for online order options through Etsy and eBay. Cost is $22 for the Small box, $60 for the Medium box with all shipping charges included. We can ship to anywhere in the U.S., including Hawaii, Alaska and Puerto Rico. Pick-up from the farm is available for all of our varieties and fresh produce. Of course we will remove the shipping charges for pick-up orders. More options coming soon!

Sweet & Spice Make Everything Nice

Our summer sweet & spicy jams are ready! We have Pineapple-Mango Habanero, Peach-Jalapeno and Dragon's Toe Pepper Jam in stock and ready to go out the door.

Pineapple-Mango Habanero is one of our most popular options year after year. And for good reason. It is super sweet behind the pineapple and mango, then slides in a smooth heat from our most flavorful Habaneros.

Peach-Jalapeno is the classic sweet & spicy combo. It's a smooth jam with a sweet peach flavor with an undertone of heat from the Jalapenos. This one is a great option to start with if the thought of a spicy jam sounds scary. It's mild and will make you rethink your fear of hot peppers.

Last, but not least is the Dragon's Toe Pepper Jam. Our Toe Jam is made with the same recipe as last year's relish dipping sauce. We tweeked the cooking method a bit to improve the consistency to be closer to a true pepper jam. It's thicker than last year when it debuted, but still packs the same mild heat from the tasty Dragon's Toe Peppers and brings the sweet with our finest Lunchbox and Escamillo peppers. Thsi is another great option for you first pepper jam.

All peppers used in these jams were grown right here on our farm so we know they are clean, organic, high quality ingredients. Try them out now. Shop online from our Shop page and have them shipped to your doorstep. Or contact us if you are local to make a curbside pickup from the farm.

More info on all of our jams and jellies is available on the Jams/Jellies/Sauces page.

Farm Update 7-8-20

It's been a while since our last farm update. Things are going great thanks to all of you! We cannot believe the amount of growth we have seen in sales and interest in our farm since we opened in 2016. We were afraid COVID-19 would hault our spring sales, but we saw much growth as compared to last year. We literally couldn't make Violet Jelly and Dandelion Jelly fast enough! Thank you to all who purchased from us from March through now. Our farm family experienced major reductions in our hours and pay with our "normal" jobs so the farm income actually helped us to pay the bills. We cannot state how grateful we are for this help during the time when our family needed it the most.

Pepper harvest in 2019 was massive! We no longer measure by counting the peppers. We measured in buckets picked. It was tough to keep up with in the fall, but we managed and have some ideas on how to make things a little easier on us this year. We have again expanded as the demand for our peppers continues to increase, especially for Habaneros, Ghost, Scorpion and Carolina Reaper Peppers. The majority of our peppers continue to supply Uncle Paul's Pepper Powder. Uncle Paul sold bottles of his delicious rub all over the country and even beyond our borders to Canada and the UK! We can't believe some of our peppers end up across the pond in the UK! Give his powder a try if you haven't already. He has several different flavors. When you buy from him, you are supporting us. We can get you in touch with him if you are interested in getting some pepper powder to try.

Devil's Tongue Peppers

All of your pepper favorites will be back in 2020, inclduing Cayenne, Jalapeno, Anaheim Chili, Thai, several Habanero varieties, Ghost, Peach Ghost, Trinidad Scorpion and Carolina Reaper. We will also be adding the Datil pepper, a tasty pepper from Florida that is highly sought after by those that know how it tastes. We will offer our peppers fresh and dried again this year, with options to become available this summer for shipping the fresh peppers. It's something we have been working on for some time now and are determined to make it happen in 2020.

As stated above, our spring jams and jellies have been a hit. We will bring back some favorites later this summer like Peach, Peach-Jalapeno, Ghost Pepper, Mint and Pineapple-Mango Habanero. We also plan to offer a Carolina Reaper Pepper option, along with some Raspberry variations as we finally grew our raspberry patch big enough to be able to use them. We are open to ideas for new options so send us any you might have!

We added Seeds to our offerings this spring and it was HUGE success. We have been moving more toward harvesting and planting our own seeds for two reasons. One is that it is more cost-efficient. Two is that we have had more success germinating our own seeds than those we have bought from vendors. We decided to offer up some of our extras after our first round of planting and the response was overwhelming. We sold everything we had available, literally hundreds of seed packets. Every single packet sold. Our customers had great success with germinating the seeds so we plan to continue offering seeds in the future.

Seeds

Pickles and Garlic will also remain part of our offerings in 2020. You can start pre-ordering pickles in the next few weeks. Our Garlic is starting to become available. It's all been harvested and is hanging to dry. We will post additional varieties as they become ready. We also plan to offer Luffa Gourds in the late fall. We have grown luffas the past two years. They are great in the garden, attracting many bees. The gourds can be peeled to reveal a luffa sponge inside. We have used the sponges from the first two years around the farm and feel like now we are ready to share with everyone else. The sponges work great for washing things. We use them to scrub vegetables after picking, to wash dishes, clean buckets and tools, and even in the shower! They get softer them more you use them. It's hard to beat a natural sponge that comes straight from the garden. We hope you will give them a try when they become available.

Elephant garlic flower

We are also contiuing to build up our apple trees, blueberry bushes and flowers. We hope to be able to use the apples and blueberries in future products. The flowers are mainly to attract pollinators, which has worked really well thus far. We have many more bees around the farm now than when we first moved here.

Beautiful lilly that bloomed for the first time this year.

So everything is in the ground and growing strong! Now comes the hardest part... the waiting! We will provide more updates this summer and fall as things become available. Again, we are very thankful to all of you who visit our page and try our items. You have not only supported the farm, but also our family during these past few months. Thank you!

Package Safety

The following Q&A regarding packages and shipping were published by a local hospital and contain CDC's current stance on package safety. We thought this would be helpful to pass along to everyone during this time. We feel shipping is generally safe at this time. It does not sound like the coronavirus lives for very long on cardboard, but we are disinfecting all packages, and their contents, coming in and going out of the farm just to be safe. We urge you to do the same. We are currently filling orders and are doing everything we can to keep them safe while they packages are in our hands.

Q. How long does the virus live on a package?

A. In a guide to cleaning and disinfecting in households that have suspected or confirmed cases of CV-19, the CDC says that the virus may remain viable for hours to days on surfaces made from a variety of materials such as metals or plastic. The virus “could” survive on cardboard up to 24 hours according to NAIAID, NIH and recent data published in the MIT Review. In most studies, there is very low risk of spread from products or packaging that are shipped over a period of days at ambient temperatures. Again, while the risk is low, it cannot be excluded.

Q. Should I disinfect my packages?

AThe CDC’s advice on protecting yourself does not include advice on disinfecting packages. It’s advice continues to be consistent and universal in the guidance to wash your hands frequently and avoid close contact with people. The CDC advised with research continuing, the virus is thought to be primarily transmitted through “respiratory droplets” between people who are within 6 feet of one another. It is not ruled out that a person can get CV-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their mouth, nose or eyes but that is not the main way the virus spreads.
OSHA says, similarly, in its guidance to control and prevention that there is no evidence that CV-19 is spread through environmental exposures such as contact with contaminated surfaces. To be extra-cautious, particularly if you are in a higher risk group, you can dispose of outer packaging outside of your home and wash hands immediately after handling. But this is not likely necessary for most people handling packages.

Remember too, that on the way to picking up your package that you may be touching a number of things that qualify as a “frequently touched surface” like elevator buttons, doorknobs, or the stylus you used to sign for the package. Being situationally aware of your contact with these surfaces is just as important-any maybe more important-than the way you handle a package. Washing your hands will reduce the risk of infection from these high touch surfaces.

Q. What are delivery services doing to keep packages safe?

A. Of course the person who touches your package last is likely your delivery person and it is always in everyone’s best interest to make sure they are staying healthy. When we reached out to UPS to ask about package safety, they pointed us to a statement on their website that said “If a UPS employee experiences symptoms they are to seek medical treatment immediately. If you want to limit contact with a UPS delivery driver, you can use UPS My Choice for free to leave instructions on your deliveries”. The United States Postal Service says simply that it is following CDC published safety guidelines. Fed-Ex says it encourages employees to monitor their health and is asking anyone with flu like symptoms to stay home while enforcing the practice of sanitizing trucks and stores regularly.
Amazon wrote that it is following CDC guidelines and that it has created a relief fund which would allow independent delivery drivers who have CV-19 or have to quarantine to apply for grants equal to two weeks’ pay paid by government or Amazon.

Each service says they are continuing to deliver packages and are prioritizing healthcare and food supplies to its customers. Be kind to the people working hard to get your packages to you and practice good hygiene when touching the things they touch.

COVID-19 Update

We continue to be open and willing to ship our products during this trying time. Rest assured we are taking extra precautions to be sure our products are packaged and shipped cleanly. We would encourage you to clean any packages and goods you receive when they arrive just to be extra safe. Pick-up from the farm also continues to be available.

Remember, all of our canned jams, jellies and sauces are sealed so there is no way the coronavirus is inside. We made all the currently available varieties before this novel strain of the virus existed. If you don't feel safe ordering at this time, we totally understand. We will be here when you feel ready again. We will continue to be open as long as allowed by our local and state authorities. Shipping time might be slightly slower than normal as we are taking extra time to prepare shipments to ensure they are clean.

Thank you for all your support and understanding during this time. Be safe out there!
